1. EYEWITNESS REPORTS
 
Many of us will still recall the warm weeks at the beginning of March 2003, when it felt almost like early summer, with a temperature of up to 20 degrees Celsius. This period was followed by a number of clear sunny days as before, but at the same time by a stupendous fall in temperature of up to 15 degrees throughout Europe. This was explained meteorologically as a `cold weather front`, and was accompanied by a persistent air humidity of little more than 25% - a phenomenon that hardly ever occurs in these latitudes with their frequently incessant spring rainfall. Could it be that other factors were contributing significantly to the `remarkable` weather in Europe?
 
For five years now a heated debate has been going on mainly in the USA, in the Internet and on `National Public Radio`, about a phenomenon called CHEMTRAILS. According to eyewitnesses of these `Chemtrails` - and by now there are several hundred thousands of such people - the following observations are made, particularly on warm, clear days:
 
Over rural and urban areas one can see a conspicuously large number of aircraft (at any given moment 5 to 15 of them) flying back and forth at an altitude of at least 6000 metres. These aircraft are often completely unmarked grey transporters of the Boeing KC-10 or KC-135 type - more rarely also passenger jets - which are, however, never observed in take-off or landing manoeuvres.
 
At first these aircraft appear to be leaving vapour trails, but after observing them for a while one starts to have one`s doubts: These `vapour trails`, which are laid out in a regular, gigantic criss-cross pattern do not disperse in a matter of minutes, but hang motionless in the air; one could almost speak of an adhesive effect. Often a pearl-necklace-like pattern of the vapour is recognizable, which can also turn into a sequence of large `drops`.
 
Slowly but surely, these `vapour trails` or drops broaden within a time span of 30 to 60 minutes, and as they do so they form a dense, viscous cloud-like mass that looks like stirred milk-foam. The supposed vapour trails join together more and more to form cloud-banks.
 
After 2 to 5 hours the sky is covered with a diffuse layer of mist and cloud. However, this only arises where the aircraft have been active flying back and forth spraying intensively. Strangely enough, the original chemtrails remain recognizable hours later as condensed white cords in a milky broth.
 
All this time the aircraft continue to fly across the sky in a rough chessboard pattern, until they too start to fade from view in the thickening mist. Interestingly enough, if a take-off or landing manoeuvre is observed nearby, one is struck by the qualitatively quite different - because normal - vapour trail. In this case it extends a few kilometres at most behind the aircraft, and after a few minutes evaporates completely. This difference in consistency could not be more striking!
 
Between our observer and the previously blue sky an impenetrable mist bank has now formed, which soon covers the entire sky. If the sun can still be made out amongst the chemtrail clouds, a light halo can often be seen around it in which a pale rainbow effect is visible. This effect can be explained by the diffraction of light in the aluminium powder of the chemtrails (see Chapter 2).
 
After a few hours the air temperature falls markedly - that is, it drops by 5-7 degrees. At the same time, the air humidity invariably sinks to levels around 30%. A really observant person will be able to sense physically how the surrounding air is deprived of its moisture. This effect is attributable to the barium salts contained in the chemtrails (see Chapter 2). It is worth noting that the fall in temperature mentioned here generally occurs at the beginning of a series of spraying operations. Such `series` normally last several weeks, and the temperature fluctuation in the middle of a series is less pronounced as the result of the artificial lowering of the overall values.
 
The cold and dry conditions that now set in can continue unrelentingly for days. As a result there is mostly fine, but noticeably misty, cooler weather. Consequently there is no rainfall whatsoever. A conspicuous `bleaching` of the sky also occurs. This bleaching is so extreme that no blue can be seen, especially if one`s gaze is directed towards the horizon. Here, all we see is a pale, white ribbon that at most shows the brownish tone of fossil fuels in the air. It is this quality of the `white skies` that is the most distinctive, being the most persistent, feature of completed chemtrail activity. Hence the title of this article.
 
Often a whole week elapses before the weather returns to `normal` - i.e. to what is typical for the season in question. For this reason a chemtrail spraying series generally follows a weekly rhythm.
 
Meanwhile it is tempting to assert that with the arrival of summer a cloudless day `per se` is no longer tolerated! Unbelievable as it may seem, as soon as such weather sets in even for a few hours, the blue May skies above Basel are instantly `alleviated` by a concentrated spray series! Hence the harried locals have for ten weeks now looked up to a sky that has been, when not a shapeless grey, then at best a spoiled off-white tone interlaced with synthetic swaths...
 

2. HOW IT CAME ABOUT– LIVERMORE, HUGHES AEROSPACE AND THE WELSBACH PATENT
 
The first documented sighting of chemtrails over Switzerland, so far as I am aware, is mentioned in a brief report by the US chemtrail researcher Christopher Bollyn in the Internet, on January 21st 2003 (see Footnote 1). At the time, Bollyn was participating as an independent observer in the conference of the Non-Governmental Organisations running parallel to the World Economic Forum in Davos. He was struck by chemtrails over the Basel area (where he landed after his flight from the USA), and also over the entire Canton of Graubünden. Bollyn then sent written inquiries expressing his concern, to the Swiss Green Party and also to a number of individuals. He informs us that he did not receive a single reply. Maybe Bollyn’s mistake was to appeal to a capacity for critical inquiry which he believed still existed in this country.
 
But what is the chemtrail phenomenon all about? Let us try to dissipate some of the dense fog surrounding the subject.
 
In March 1991, two US research scientists of Chinese descent, David Chang and I-Fu Shih, submitted an application to the United States Patent Office, for a patent with respect to `Stratospheric Welsbach Seeding for Reduction of Global Warming` (the `Welsbach Patent`: Footnote 2, and Supplement). The acting applicant and would-be commercial beneficiary was the air and space-technology giant Hughes Aerospace in Los Angeles.
 
In the course of their research at (amongst others) the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, the two biochemists had developed a sophisticated high-tech solution to the biggest industrial-technological problem of the present time: Global warming.
 
To express it in simple terms: Due to the massive consumption of fossil fuels in the last 150 years or so, the deflection into space of heat radiated by the earth is prevented to a significant extent. The impeded exchange of heat leads to a world-wide rise in temperature, which has meanwhile assumed alarming proportions. This warming threatens to cause a global `flip-over` of the climate, accompanied by the most varied symptoms (e.g. melting of the polar ice-caps, El Nino phenomenon, dying of fish and coral, world-wide drought, etc.).
 
Chang and Shih now recommended the release of so-called `Welsbach particles` into the stratosphere by means of a carrying substance. `Welsbach particles` are metal oxides which convert the warmth that is prevented by the greenhouse gases from escaping from the earth’s atmosphere, into infra-red waves. These waves are then abducted into space, resulting in the desired cooling effect. The minute particles described in the patent are to be added to the fuel of the jet aircraft, so that they are expelled from the engines during the combustion process. The substances in question are mainly aluminium oxide in powder form, and barium salts which, interestingly enough, become visible in the sky as pure white strands!
 
The metallic particles thus fulfil a dual function: On the one hand, heat emitted by the Earth is transformed, through a highly complex photochemical procedure, into light, which is then converted by means of the Welsbach particles into infra-red radiation and abducted into outer space. On the other hand, the instreaming sunlight is simply diffracted by the aluminium powder and thus reflected back.
 
As if this were not enough, there is a sentence at the end of the `Welsbach Patent` stating that the particles released into the atmosphere would continue to be effective for up to a year, once a sufficient saturation of the `target area` has been achieved.
 
Doubts that were initially voiced by other Livermore luminaries led to the conducting of computer simulations by Kenneth Caldeira. The simulations surprisingly confirmed Chang and Shih’s theories and predicted an effectiveness of between 1 and 2%. Caldeira calculated that this would be enough to counteract global warming by up to 85%. This would even allow the doubling of fossil fuel output over a period of 50 years – without consequences of an all too harmful nature... Whether calculations of this kind help to explain the unilateral withdrawal from the Kyoto agreement by the Bush administration, would appear to be a justified question in this new context.
 
Chemtrail cost analyses by Livermore estimated an expenditure of around 1 billion dollars per annum – worldwide: a relatively modest sum, when compared with the annual profits of, say, the oil industry.
 
The go-ahead for this world-wide undertaking of unparalleled audacity and enormously high risk, was probably given when Dr. Edward Teller, founder of the prestigious Livermore Laboratory and world-famous `Father of the H-bomb`, became involved. From 1994 to 1998 Teller carried out intensive lobbying for his Livermore protégés and their `method for the biophysical reduction of global warming`, and recommended comprehensive pilot trials to the US Government: First over US terrritory, and later over that of `friendly states`.
 
In May 2000, according to journalist William Thomas, the Welsbach patent was expounded to the meteorologists of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – a selected international panel of several hundred climate experts who meet regularly under the auspices of the United Nations. It was here that the spraying method was approved by a majority as to the likelihood of success (Footnote 3).
 
The most serious objection voiced by the IPCC had to do with an aesthetic aspect which in their opinion might endanger the secrecy of the climatic manipulation project: The noticeable pallour of the skies on the days following the spraying. This unmistakable bleaching effect, especially towards the horizon, might be observed above all by environmentally aware individuals, thereby possibly jeopardizing the project as a whole. It is for this reason and in the hope that such fears might prove true, that this article bears its title.
 
At the time of the IPCC Conference, however, field testing by Hughes Aerospace - at least in the USA - was already in full swing.
 

3. CHEMTRAIL ANALYSES AND HEALTH IMPLICATIONS
 
Impartial - because independently financed - analysis of the composition of chemtrails in the United States has for the most part proved difficult. On the one hand, a comparatively rapid dispersion occurs after the spraying, leading to a quick decline in concentration in the air. On the other, the collecting of air samples at an altitude of 6000 metres is a very costly undertaking. Nevertheless, numerous microscopic analyses have since been carried out: Repeated examination showed that a synthetic carrier substance of polymer threads (together with other unidentified components) contained traces of (so-called ‘non-radioactive’) barium salts, and microscopic particles of aluminium in a (relative to standard air levels) sevenfold higher concentration.
 
Research into the health consequences of a large-scale modification of the weather by means of chemtrails is somewhat easier to carry out. In the days and weeks after the spraying of clearly defined areas in the USA, there was shown to be a statistical accumulation of the following symptoms:
 
Spontaneous nose-bleeding in cases of intensive exposure, breathing difficulty, headaches, equilibrium disturbance, and chronic fatigue. In addition an increase in flu epidemics, asthma, cases of conjunctivitis, and, interestingly enough, loss of short-term memory was noted. In research into Alzheimer’s disease, aluminium poisoning of the body is specifically known to be an important contributive factor!
 
If we seek for the causes of such symptoms, we should bear in mind the following: When the US Air Force began analyzing the stratosphere in the 1960’s, they came up with a number of astonishing results. Just as exotic life-forms had been found in the depths of our oceans, the scientists found in the test samples from the stratosphere myriads of bacteria, fungal spores and viruses which were unknown on the earth’s surface. Other life-forms that are still smaller than bacteria also thrive there. Dr. Robert Folk, the discoverer of these `nanobacteria`, as they are called, describes this – numerically the largest – population of our planet in the following terms: `These are dwarf forms of bacteria which have 1000 times less volume than normal bacteria and are several times more numerous than these. Yet, normal bacteria are to be found nearly everywhere.`
 
As the chemtrails are normally sprayed over densely populated areas, where temperature variation is largest and a cooling of the earth is therefore most urgently needed (at least by Hughes Aerospace), one must assume that the particle-laden chemtrails carry down the viruses, bacteria and fungi thriving in the stratosphere, into the respiratory tracts and lungs of most human beings. As they are `extra-terrestrial` life forms, our immune system does not recognize them, and this lack of resistance will, in all probability lead to an entire new range of illnesses. Of course, such newly emerging illnesses also open up whole new market segments to the pharmaceutical industry (if the reader will permit this cynical aside).
 
When the bacteriologist Dr. Folk undertook experiments with light metals as a nutrient solution for his nanobacteria, a certain metal proved overwhelmingly to be their `dish of choice`: Aluminium!
 

4. ‘WEATHER…2025’: WEATHER CONTROL AS GEOSTRATEGY
 
In June 1996 US-Air Force Colonel Tamzy J. House and two of his assistants in the Strategic Committee of the Air Force Chiefs of Staff delivered a lecture entitled - `Weather as a force multiplier: Owning the weather in 2025`. This lecture, which can be found on a US-Air Force website, shows how one is hoping to bring the weather under control worldwide by 2025 at the latest. The aim thereby is to develop the military-technological know-how necessary to bend and shape the earth`s weather in the exact manner desired (Footnote 4). This strategic paper speaks specifically of `cloud seeding`, meaning that clouds are to be provided with characteristics that make them effective chemically or climatologically.
 
A particularly insidious idea in the “Weather…2025” report, however, is the following:
 
Under the heading `Weather Modification`, the Air Force (and this generic term also includes space `defence`– and the Strategic Missile Defence Shield now being developed) is advised to manipulate the weather covertly in the near future in such a way that climatic catastrophes such as drought or flooding can be promoted anywhere in the world. By means of a subsequent `systematic leaking` of the military capacity to control the weather, this would lead to insight among the wider public and to a call for `benevolent` intervention to counter precisely those supposedly natural climatic catastrophes which one had oneself `modified` in advance! Thus by means of a procedure that perhaps resembles, more than we may presently realise, the destruction of the World Trade Centre towers, the devil himself is invoked - in order then to be driven out with Beelzebub`s aid. We should bear in mind that the invoker might prove to be no more than a sorcerer`s apprentice - with foreseeable consequences!
 
Interestingly enough, in one paragraph of the `Weather…2025` report we read that `weather control specialists` were already at the time of writing (1996) engaged in spraying chemicals from high flying tanker aircraft. The goal of the experiments being carried out was defined as `aerial obfuscation`. It is not too difficult, in the present writer`s opinion, to recognize here the artificial creation of cloud cover.
 
Moreover, there are serious indications that the weather weapon has already been put to use: During the NATO attack on Kosovo in spring 1999, quite unusual weather conditions hung over Serbia for several weeks. Weather satellites reported mostly fine conditions over the whole of Europe, while Serbia alone was covered with clouds in such a way that the outlines of the country could be sketched on the satellite photos! According to numerous eyewitnesses, the weather phenomenon was accompanied by persistent lack of rain, giving way at the end of the campaign to extreme drought. The highly unusual weather was the subject of numerous newspaper articles and readers’ letters in many parts of Yugoslavia (Footnote 5).
 
The case of North Korea’s climate is also worth looking at in this context: There too for several consecutive years around the turn of the century, the most terrible periods of drought occurred. These led in the communist country to the well-known regime-destabilizing famines – a `natural event` of which there was not the slightest trace in any of the neighbouring countries – US-allied South Korea, for example!
 
Nearly 5 years after the initial field tests in the USA, the potential for weather control is obviously growing rapidly. There can be little doubt that it is currently the favourite toy of the technological elite. Clearly therefore, the implementation of weather control planning in accordance with the `Weather…2025` report is being rushed ahead quite ruthlessly. It goes without saying that every successive war offers a new field for experimentation. The case in question? At the time of printing this article it would be the impending conflict with Iran.
 

5. CHEMTRAILS – OR THE DENIAL OF WHAT IS PLAIN FOR ALL TO SEE
 
Owing to the highly charged nature of the ‘Chemtrails’ theme it is hardly surprising that up till now, so far as I am aware, the phenomenon has not been mentioned in the Swiss press - or, for that matter, in any major European publication. In the USA, where chemtrails and the most varied theories to explain them have been discussed for 5 years in the Internet and on ‘National Public Radio’, there are hundreds of websites with thousands of pictures showing the chemtrails and explaining how the `clouds` come about. In addition, one can read eyewitness reports of thousands of people from all parts of the world. Nevertheless, even in the USA the subject is studiously ignored by the big news agencies and avoided by leading newspapers. When inquiries are addressed publicly to air traffic control authorities or to environmental offices of airports, for years now this has had invariably very similar results. The strategy concerned is worth looking at more closely. First we can recognize that, when questions are asked, the authorities envisage five stages of response:
 
1) To deny that chemtrails exist. If the questioner remains dissatisfied or probes further, one then
 
2) Expresses overall doubts about the arguments brought forward, and ridicules eyewitness reports.
 
If questions persist,
 
3) One confirms the existence of chemtrails, but plays down their significance.
 
Then follows, in accordance with the same pattern,
 
4) To speak of military manoeuvres `whose purpose is unknown`, and finally
 
5) To refuse to discuss the matter further owing to `National Security` restrictions.
 
For each of the stages of response indicated above there are, interestingly enough, countless witnesses who have had to ascend this `information pyramid`! The official source itself, when questioned, only advances to the next `response stage` if and when the person seeking information refuses outright to accept the answer he/she is given. The authorities in question at all times operate within a framework of `plausible denial` – i.e. to qualify or withdraw, with maximum credibility, any statement of agreement previously made. In view of the absence of reports in the media worldwide, this strategy of `plausible denial` seems to be proving effective. On the other hand it shows clearly the highly charged nature of the whole subject.
 
The obvious attempt to keep secret the weather experiment that has been conducted worldwide since 1999 at the very latest, can be explained in the following way:
 
The upper atmosphere is generally sprayed by large military transport aircraft of the Boeing KC-10 or KC-135 type. In order to make it impossible for others to identify their flight routes, the planes fly painted a uniform grey, with all identification numbers removed. In some cases, specially equipped civil aircraft (e.g. Boeing 737) are said to be used. The spraying of chemtrails is in violation of countless international environmental regulations, and it raises basic questions concerning national sovereignty as well as regarding the protection of national airspace. Such airspace violations represent a flagrant breach of basic international aviation law. Movements by unidentifiable aircraft, to give but one example, are illegal even in time of war. The take-offs and landings in Europe must therefore be taking place almost exclusively from military airports of a foreign power that is operating on European soil, a power that (in Germany, for example) has significant sovereign rights of its own. In fact, it can only be the US-Air Force.
 
In addition, far-reaching questions arise as to legal liability in the event of harm to individuals (illness, mental disturbances) and the environment (liability under international law). How is a claim for damages put forward by environmental groups to be dealt with? Or the reaction of an outraged public?
 
Because of the vast implications of the problems thus arising, a clandestine approach is the most desirable option, accompanied where necessary by a strategy of ‘plausible denial’ in one’s dealings with the public. The alternatives are few, for if (contrary to present assumptions) such a strategy were to fail, this would lead almost inevitably to a halting of the chemtrail programme, particularly in Europe.
 
Within the context of the authorities’ counter-strategy (at least in the USA), we should indicate two of the most persuasive arguments put forward by ‘chemtrail deniers’, which can easily be disproved through careful observation.
 
- Firstly, the extremely varied qualities (consistency, rate of dispersal) of normal vapour trails are often pointed out. It is enough to have the patience to observe, on a single `chemtrail spraying day`, countless aircraft which are producing either no vapour at all, or trails of a quite different consistency! Note that we are referring to planes that are similarly located and flying at a comparable altitude to the spray aircraft.
 
- Secondly, the authorities point to the countless possible forms that clouds can have, and their complex typology. Here too, when one looks more closely, one recognizes that when certain clearly defined patterns are made (flights in geometrical lattice or parallel formation, or repeated cross patterns) by a given number (5 to 15) of aircraft, they a l w a y s behave in the same way (conspicuously flying back and forth, intersecting in groups of 2 or 3).
 
- As a consequence, thick contrails a l w a y s appear. While it is well-known that natural vapour trails arise only under clearly defined meteorological conditions, these synthetic trails do not disperse after a few seconds or minutes, but themselves start to form long, swathe-like cloud-banks.
 
- Generally these artificial-looking cloud-banks still bear, hours later, the trace of the original flight-path. Within a space of 2 to 5 hours they a l w a y s spread out to form a steadily closing, at first white and then often greying, blanket of cloud.
 
- Instead of rain, and thus the increase in air-humidity to be expected, the hygrometer a l w a y s falls to markedly low levels of between 25 and 35% on chemtrail days . Consequently it n e v e r rains from such clouds.
 
- These clouds, which a l w a y s form in the course of a chemtrail day, are invariably smeary and without contours: Our weather controllers have obviously not yet succeeded in designing a decent fleecy cloud out of Welsbach particles! A particularly impressive spectacle can be observed when the artificial mist gradually overlaps natural cumulus cloud formations, only to finally swallow them completely.
 
The worldwide `chemtrails` weather project is, there can be scarcely any doubt, a multi-billion dollar enterprise. Despite these costs it is carried through because it is highly profitable: that is to say, because more money – above all more oil billions – are poured into the coffers than are squandered in the sky. The chemtrail enterprise is almost certainly a joint venture between the oil, the pharmaceutical and the military industries, the latter being an ordinary profit-oriented enterprise like any other. As elsewhere, the first priority in the Chemtrail enterprise with its model collaboration between the three key industries would have to be the maximizing of profit.
 
For this reason one must, in the case of chemtrails, also reckon with the possibility of the concealed implementation of `dual-active systems` - systems which, in addition to an effect in the realm of weather control, would serve as a vehicle for other co-factors that are presently unknown. Pharmaceutical substances with perhaps a more mentally stimulating or a more sedative effect, but which might serve the purpose of some form of `mind control`, could be envisaged. Such suspicions arise when one is aware that mass experiments of this kind were carried out in San Francisco, and in many other locations, in the early 1960’s. This has been extensively documented by US `Freedom of Information Act` (FOIA) records that have been made public. In view of the gigantic investment required to launch the chemtrail enterprise on the ‘world weather market’, it is entirely consistent with the logic of this marketing operation that such ‘dual-active systems’ may be seriously considered for the enhancement of profitability.
 

6. THE SHIELD
 
Circumstantial evidence pointing to the existence of the chemtrails project is, and we would reiterate this, not only the fact that one can watch it happening, but current global warming as it spirals out of control. I would therefore remind the reader that the present ‘White Skies’ paper first appeared long before this ‘hottest summer of all times’, and anticipated subsequent developments precisely.
 
Since the first printing of this report in April 2003, two remarkable developments have taken place, which provide deeper insight into the ongoing chemtrail programme and offer further confirmation of its existence. They are the following:
 
1) The anonymously published, detailed statements of a chemtrail ‘Insider’, who is employed as a scientific expert in the Canadian section of the project, where he provides computer assessments for distribution, and analysis of long-term chemtrail effects. This informer, referred to in the following text as ‘Deep Shield’, provides further proof, and describes aims of a more far-reaching nature behind the spraying project (Footnote 6).
 
2) The coming to light of the nearly 1000-page study ‘Policy Implications of Greenhouse Warming’, which was compiled as early as 1992 by the National Academy of Sciences (Washington DC), an interdisciplinary think-tank close to the government, and whose clear message is the necessity to spray the overheated atmosphere with aluminium as an antidote to global warming! This study was not made available publicly until the year 2000 (!), but is currently directly accessible in the Internet (Footnote 7).
 
With no further explanation given, Deep Shield approached the hosts of the chemtrail website ‘holmestead.ca’, and offered to answer a number of questions about the current spraying programme. His statement appeared in early summer, and we find it convincing for two reasons: On the one hand, it provides a conclusive explanation for a number of ‘natural phenomena’ that struck many chemtrail observers during this extremely hot summer. On the other hand, Deep Shield appears to be a critically-minded contemporary, but one who, because of the seriousness of the situation, is an equally convinced ‘chemtrailer’! This lends added weight to his statements, which are unusually disturbing, and makes it unlikely that they are a hoax (Footnote 8). Deep Shield’s most crucial insights are summed up in the following list of points:
 
- The destruction of the very basis for life on our planet is advancing rapidly. Shortages of food, oil, drinking water, the extermination of plant and animal species, the `flip-over` of the climate, and the population explosion leave humanity with between 20 and, at the very most, 50 years until the extinction of the higher animal species, and therewith of human life. This has been known in the `responsible circles` of the multinational concerns and the heads of government allied to them (USA, G-8 countries, EU) since at least the beginning of the 1990`s, which indisputably marks civilization`s `point of no return`.
 
- The survival of at least a segment of humanity requires an emergency programme, which must be implemented without delay, and whose pivotal factor is the halting, by means of the chemtrail programme, of the rapid warming of our atmosphere. This part of the emergency programme is officially called `The Shield`, and has been under way through the application of the Welsbach patent (1991) since 1995 at the latest. The heat-shield being created is a gigantic experiment on, in Deep Shield`s words, `an unprecedented, worldwide scale`, whose outcome - even for the scientists actively involved in it - cannot be foreseen.
 
- Further evidence pointing to the existence of this Shield Project is the step-by-step recall of major environmental programmes, for example the Kyoto Accord, or the revoking of nearly all environmental restrictions on coal-powered generating plants in the USA (2003). This is happening, because the traditional approach to environmental conservation is proving to be far too slow, expensive and inefficient. Thus advocating such measures has been, for some time now, `for public consumption only` - that is, largely for the sake of easing the public conscience.
 
- With humanity on the likely path to extinction, an uneasy balance is being sought between ecology and economy. Ecology loses out for the time being, as there is still a huge lack of discernment on the part of the public as to the catastrophic situation in this area. A compromise is therefore being sought between short-term ecological measures and long-term incentives to bolster the world economy - with correspondingly uncertain prospects of success.
 
Deep Shield also believes that many efforts to protect the environment are, at present, creating more problems than they solve. For example, agricultural production losses due to public opposition to genetically modified foods are proving disastrous for many multinationals. Of course, one does not need to share his opinion to follow the line of argument. We could also raise the objection that the ordinary person`s courage and will to live are being gravely underestimated, and that if processes of change are desired, then better methods can be found to avert such a dire threat to planetary survival than the harbouring of `secret` knowledge. If, on the other hand, the aim were explicitly to prevent such a process of change, then things appear - alas! - to be running rather smoothly.
 
Let us return, then, to Deep Shield`s statements concerning our predicament:
 
- The worldwide `Shield` project is subject to international control under the auspices of the United Nations. This is managed by a department - created expressly for this purpose - of the World Health Organisation, which delegates the practical implementation to NATO and the leading civil authorities, and sees to its coordination. The command structure within the Shield Project is strictly hierarchical, and ensures that individual insight into the `Shield Project` is conveyed on a `need-to-know` basis. The structure is safeguarded by means of a contract binding all those involved to secrecy.
 
- The World Health Organisation estimates `losses` arising from the Shield Project at around two billion fatalities, assuming the duration of the programme to be up to 50 years - or 40 million fatalities annually. The main factor here is the premature deaths of the elderly, and of people suffering from respiratory illnesses. Other sources, such as the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Maryland speak of a possible 3-5 billion dead, or 60-80 million per year. In view of such figures quoted by Deep Shield, which according to the WHO and the CDC would seem to be well-founded, one can only imagine that the anticipated alternative scenario to the `Shield` must be something truly horrific.
 
When delving into Deep Shield`s technical information on the chemtrails, we find surprising confirmation of various phenomena which can hardly have escaped the attentive observer during this `Summer of the Century`.
 
- The following information is new: namely, that not only is global warming combatted (by means of the Welsbach particles), but also the massive increase of the sun`s ultra-violet (UV) radiation. In a somewhat different context, we find confirmation here of the suspicion voiced earlier regarding the use of `dual-active` systems, meaning systems that are deployed once, but have a twofold effect.
 
According to the indications provided by Deep Shield, the technical process is roughly as follows:
 
- The barium salts sprayed in the Shield Project oxidise in the upper atmosphere, where they form barium oxide. Barium oxide has the property of binding carbon dioxide, one of the principle causative agents of global warming.
 
- Barium and aluminium powder act together to create a diffuse electrical field. This field can then be pulsed, from aircraft as well as from the earth, with extremely low-frequency (ELF) radio waves. This leads to massive electrostatic discharges in the region between the atmosphere and the stratosphere - artificially creating ozone in the process! An interesting side-effect of this pulsing of cloud-layers is the resulting `dry storms`, or thunderstorms with no rainfall whatsoever: The electrically charged air layers react to the ozone formation with veritable lightning storms. This summer, just such `dry storms` lit up the skies of North-Western Switzerland at least twenty times - a phenomenon that led to widespread questioning, and had never been observed in this form before.
 
- During the long heatwave, one could see that spraying was being carried out with especial frequency along emerging storm fronts. The tanker aircraft were seen plying back and forth constantly before dark storm clouds. Here too, Deep Shield provides the explanation: The natural electric charge along such storm fronts binds dust, soot and other air-pollutants, thus `clearing` the air. From the point of view of climate control however, this effect is not at all desired: The atmosphere that has been thus cleansed allows a great deal of harmful ultra-violet light to reach the earth`s surface. This necessitates spraying with particular intensity, and this could be observed without difficulty countless times throughout the summer. At the same time - thanks to a favourable side-effect - the spraying of storm fronts increases the intensity of the electrical discharge, thereby promoting ozone-formation!
 
- The bleaching of the skies that is visible far and wide after intensive periods of spraying (the `white skies` effect) is caused on the one hand by the aluminium dust sprayed into the atmosphere, and on the other by the accumulation of condensation droplets, which adhere to the spider`s-web-like polymer chains mixed into the chemtrail fluid. In the polymer mixture, which is required in order to keep the aluminium dust suspended longer in the air, a cristallization process takes place after expulsion. For this reason, the ideal proportion of aluminium is a delicate matter to determine, as an excess of the light metal leads to a too rapid descent of the aluminium-polymer-ice crystal compound.
 
When the layman therefore looks heavenwards nowadays, he sees instead of the blue sky a diffusely shimmering bluish-white - and midsummer mists. These then are the new `cloudless` days of the 21st century...
 
- According to Canadian informer Deep Shield, the Shield Project is carried out by heavy Boeing military aircraft, as well as the passenger aircraft of numerous international airlines. The chemtrail fluid is passed from pressurized canisters that are carried on board, via a lead system into spray jets mounted along the edges of the plane`s wings. As the quantity of spray material required is relatively small - no more than a few hundred litres per flight - the canisters can be stored in the aircraft toilets, or are welded into the fuel tanks themselves. The technique whereby the substances are mixed directly into the aviation fuel has apparently been abandoned, as it was found that this leads to undesired chemical combinations and side-effects.
 

7. ON THE IMPLICATIONS OF `POLICY IMPLICATIONS`
 
While they were working on the Deep Shield interview, the `holmestead.ca` researchers chanced upon what is known in the English-speaking world as the `smoking gun`. The 1992 interdisciplinary study by the National Academy of Sciences, `Policy Implications of Greenhouse Warming: Mitigation, Adaptation and the Science Base` leaves, in its recommendation to the US Government of ways to deal with the threat of climatic collapse, little room for doubt as to the direction it intends to go (Footnote 7).
 
The study, which is co-sponsored by a whole range of eminent institutes, universities, national laboratories and multinationals, sees in global warming unquestionably the most urgent environmental problem of our time. Thus, ‘Policy Implications of Greenhouse Warming’ gives detailed recommendations regarding a whole series of technologies which seem to offer the possibility of blocking out the excess of sunlight that reaches the earth. The suggestion, almost identical with Chang and Shih’s ‘Welsbach Patent’, that reflective particles should be scattered in the atmosphere (‘The stratospheric particle options should be pursued’) is admittedly only one of several methods proposed for enhancing the albedo (reflectivity) of the earth’s surface, but it is precisely this procedure that is recommended most strongly.
 
In addition, the Academy of Sciences proposes that one should `…lease commercial aircraft to carry dust to their maximum flight altitude, where they would distribute it`. The Welsbach Patent, which had been granted just the year before (in 1991), surprisingly advocates an almost identical procedure. One could almost gain the impression that the renowned Academy of Sciences is covertly promoting the patent holder, Hughes Aerospace! The fact that Michael MacCracken, head of the ‘Atmospheric and Geophysical Sciences’ department of the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (with which we have already made acquaintance), is listed as a member of the advisory committee to the monumental research project, does little to bolster our faith in the integrity of the study.
 
The question arises therefore, how much longer one has to wait until someone with a sense of responsibility and the necessary ‘clout’ in politics and/or the media draws together the loose threads of evidence that are available in great abundance, weaves them into a whole, and finally ties them up into a body of irrefutable proof. That informed circles in the civil and military authorities involved (WHO, NATO, national aviation security) will come forward voluntarily, without pressure from their maltreated population, to reveal their secret dealings in what is, after all, European airspace – this hope, after at least a year of criminal silence, has faded irretrievably, together with our once blue skies.
 

8. HOW TO LOOK, IN ORDER TO SEE
 
I am often approached by readers of `White Skies`, who ask about the present visibility of the chemtrail phenomenon! As such people seem to have a strong need to let others take the responsibility even for their own sensory input, I will here add some brief, updated ‘viewing instructions’.
 
The chemtrail spraying programmes follow, as always, a rhythm of approximately one week. Spraying activity now often takes place in the nighttime, so that the aerosols can be carried upwards by the rising, warmer layers of air, and also in the early morning. As ultraviolet radiation is considerably increased in fine, cloudless weather, spraying takes place almost predictably on such days. Thus the best time for watching is:
 
Early in the morning on days for which clear, sunny weather is forecast.
 
To anyone who, after twice getting up early to observe the skies at dawn, is still unable to make out the chemtrails and what is causing them, I can only, with sincere regret of course, recommend the following: Visit the optician round the corner, or apply for a job at your local branch of the Secret Service!
 

9. CONCLUSION: ACHILLES` HEEL
 
The attempt to come to terms with a phenomenon like chemtrails leads the individual as an eyewitness almost unavoidably to the limits of what he/she has been accustomed to. Can what I see here with my own eyes, really be true? Can I still trust my own perception? Is it conceivable that our authorities could act with such audacity?
 
I asked myself such questions over a period of almost 4 years when I was repeatedly confronted with the (theoretical) question of chemtrails, and their plausibility. I still had questions and serious doubts when, in February 2003, I heard of the first chemtrail observations in Switzerland. My doubts persisted until March 6th, when I stood on a bridge across the Rhine in Basel, looked up into the sky and finally knew for certain: The chemtrails are a fact, and they are now here too! I readily admit that what was happening in the sky above me, my own eyes at first refused to believe – and yet incredulity gave way to recognition. Luckily, I was able to discern and `place` it, because its phenomenology was already familiar to me. I regard it as my duty to pass this phenomenology on, in as much detail as possible, to all who still have eyes to see.
 
For when power is exercised, then it is often power by way of fear of the unknown. If I only guess or surmise something, then power works as fear by means of suppression. But only what I do not know, what I cannot place in a meaningful context, only this can give rise to fear, and thereby exert power over me. To break this power, to give the reader the tool which will enable him or her to perceive what `ought not to be there`, is the purpose of this article.
 
For what is happening before our gaze in the sky above us, is foolhardy to an unparalleled degree – and it is also of a breathtaking arrogance. An arrogance that is confident the vassal will not dare to believe his eyes. This clearly asks, as has happened many times before in history, that those who suffer such humiliation should awaken. It calls for an awakening on our part – and this on a large scale. It demands our full attention, our determined resistance, and the strength to stand up to the cowardly and covert working of the weather manipulators and their accomplices. This working in secret, which is epitomized so clearly in the strategy of ‘plausible denial’, is the heart, but also the `Achilles` heel`, of this project. The sword of truth that cuts through the tendon is the knowledge that the chemtrail phenomenon is a fact. This knowledge is power, and can be gained through one’s own observation, and a clear perception of our environment.
 
Therefore to anyone who finds the information about the chemtrails, which admittedly appears quite phantastic when one first hears it, should be relegated to the realm of fables, I can only say: Follow the `viewing instructions` outlined above, or direct your gaze into the sky once a day for several days from a good vantage point (e.g. bridge, overpass, skyscraper), and you will find certain confirmation of what I have observed!
 

10. POSTSCRIPT: THREE WORDS
 
Dennis Kucinich, Democratic presidential candidate and Congressional Representative for the State of Ohio, tabled two motions (‘Space Preservation Acts’) to Congress, in 2001 and again in 2002. These motions call for a comprehensive ban on space-based weapons systems, and Kucinich specifically listed chemtrails in this category. In the first week of June 2003 he was a panel member at a public hearing on chemtrails in Santa Cruz, California. Responding to a question from the audience, Kucinich, who had obtained access to confidential military documents in order to draw up his motions, uttered three words which should ring true to the public ear at last: `C h e m t r a i l s-a r e-r e a l !` (Footnote 9).
